Lezioni on line

Da oggi prendo lezioni on line (a pagamento, per di più anticipato ) dal grande Jim Payne, autore di "Funky Drumming" e grande batterista/docente. Il primo passo è stata una sorta di audizione: gli ho preparato un video di me che suonavo un po' di groove funky e alcune mia registrazioni recenti col mio sestetto jazz. Pare che come batterista jazz non vada male (I listened to the tunes from 2008 and they sound great. Very nice jazz feel, especially on Tit.) Ora sentiremo cosa ne pensa del funky. Una volta finito l'assessment, si comincerà con le lezioni vere e proprie, con verifiche ogni due settimane. Le lezioni sarano orientate a migliorare il mio drumming rock/funk/blues. Vi dirò strada facendo come vanno le cose...

Interessante....mi sono sempre chiesto come funzionano queste lezioni online, si utilizza skype? si prova prima la connessione per verificare se tutto è fattibile? sono realmente utili e funzionali come delle lezioni "dal vivo" ?

@Recytal: non dovrebbero esserci scambi in tempo reale. Da quello che ho capito (ancora non ho avuto i "compiti") Jim, dopo la valutazione iniziale, mi assegnerà un certo numero di cose da fare e appena pronto io le registro e le sottopongo alla sua attenzione, e così via... 80 dollaroni per modulo.

PS: una "lezione" dovrebbe implicare circa due settimane di studio da parte mia

Pensavo di fare l'iscrizione alla scuola di thomas lang, son 240€ all'anno, paghi, ti scarichi la lezione, ti filmi mentre la esegui e ti corregge...
All'incirca siamo lì come metodo...

È un programma standard, ma ti corregge il maestro.

Il tuo è meglio, il maestro ti segue meglio, peró questa alternativa è interessante...

Tempo di esami per tutti... ecco come Jim Payne ha valutato il mio video ed alcune mie registrazioni jazz che gli ho sottoposto per una valutazione iniziale

Here’s my evaluation:

Funk Drumming. p. 46
Good feel, nice and crisp
Good BD foot

Nice steady groove.
Pretty accurate on your reading of the beats.
50 Ways to leave your lover. Where did you get this? From listening or from a transcription. I used to have this. Would have to look it up again. Sounds like you’ve got it.

Chad Smith groove: yeah, nice. Flows right along. Time rushes a little which I find happens when you use two hands on the HH. It’s just easier technically to play and tends to speed up. I have to watch it closely too. Or I should say listen closely.

Bull01:
Great jazz feel. Nice going into the 6/8 with the bell every once in a while.
Fast tempo too.
You’re driving it with the RC, that’s it, nice.
High level of playing. Time stays steady all the way.
Nice playing of some of the melody notes on the SD while playing the Ride, in other words, jazz independence.

Tit03:
Again, nice flowing jazz feel. Especially for this tricky time signature.
I can hear the Roy Haynes influence.

You have a high level of jazz playing already, but as you requested we will concentrate on R&B, funk, blues and rock.

Allora, ecco alcuni estratti dal primo giudizio del mio maestro Jim Payne dopo aver ascoltato le mie registrazioni degli esercizi assegnati:

Esercizio di coordinazione charlie, cassa e rullo

Very smooth with a good balance of sounds between HH, BD and SD.
Well done, you played it right down and in good time, very deliberate./ That’s just the way it should be done.
Also you seem fairly relaxed at the set and moving with the groove. Nice.

The little mistakes aren’t a problem. Especially as you did the whole 3 pages in a row. And I know about the problems with those small BDs.
Very good time.

Again, very smooth and you played the chart right down, no problem.
I can deal with this recording method but it would be good if you could mix in the music a little louder, not too much but just a little.

I think we’ll have no problem turning you into a funkster. You have a lot together already: reading, coordination, sound mix, and above all good time. We’ll just expose you to more and more of the right techniques and material.

Don’t be afraid to use your own ideas in the charts, your own fills and beats too. Whatever you think fits the music.

Accompagnare liberamente un brano bles

Yes, the groove is there and you’re really playing the blues with strength and power.

Time gets a little ahead near the end. Interpretation of Figures could be a little more specific on the drumset. We’ll get to that too.

Nice ending, very strong.

Overall I think you have made a very good start. I’m happy that your time is very good and you already have good reading ability.
