Da una sua intervista nel 1967:
"Have you found the ideal snare drum?
The ideal snare drum for me is a wood–shell standard size 5–inch by 14–inch. I have two in white pearl with extended snares (out past the edge of the snare head) built on a special snare frame, and they are absolutely fantastic! They actually have run the gamut of a concert type recording date in the morning to a jazz band (like Basie) recording at night. That type of sensitivity and power is most unusual."
Da questa foto mi pare usi un Supraphonic Black Beauty 14x5 con die cast (possibile?):


A mio avviso usa questo Black Beauty anche nel video da te postato ed è a mio lo stesso che usa con Buddy; Buddy usa un rullante in acero, sempre 14x5, e si sente che è molto più aperto, mentre Ed usa un rullante di metallo con sordina interna..

Ovviamente, tutto quello che ho detto è un mio parere... e ovviamente lascio il beneficio del dubbio!

Il suo suono è meno aperto e più controllato, quindi probabilmente non ha i tripla flangia, ma i die cast..

Fatto sta che, indipendentemente dal rullante che usa, la sua tecnica è qualcosa di fantastico, molto espressivo, coinvolgente sia per chi lo ascolta che per chi suona con lui.. Mai troppo tecnico e pesante, ma sempre allegro e pieno di calore. Grande!
