It takes about 1 to 2 weeks

...a Paiste 2000 14" hi-hat which I wish were darker-sounding (and looking ). That sound feasible?

I just made a rather special set of 14" hihats with an oriental sound.

You get a variety of percussive sounds by just changing the place where you hit the top-cymbal. Sounds like 2 different hihats played at the same time.

Here's Sabian AA 20" Crash which was very high pitched, but I hammered it into a 20" Dark Crash. Sounds like THIS now and here's what it looks like:

Here are two 16" "Reverse China's" I hammered from 16" crashes. "Reverse" meaning the shape of Paiste Novo, bell facing upwards, edge facing down.

The rehammered version sounds darker and the overtones are warmer when the cymbal is played with low dynamics. But as soon as you play louder it begins to sound trashy. Why so?

That was the intention. I wanted to change it into a lighter, more complex and trashy jazzride for softer music.

An American drummer sent me two 20" Paiste B8 alloy cymbals (crash and ride) and asked me to convert them into a 20" Ripple Trash and an 18" Radial Trash.

Here's a before and after clip of the ride, which is now a 20" Ripple trash.
